Italy are well known for the sophistication of their play and ability to keep control of the ball and build from the back in a very deliberate manner. They have always had great defenders and are a very difficult team to break down when they take the lead. They are currently re-building following their World Cup 2010 disappointment and head into the European Championships next summer in high spirits.

One of their World Cup stars of the past was Paulo Rossi who really turned it on in the 1982 World Cup and he alone almost single-handedly beat Brazil on their way to winning this World Cup that year, where Rossi had three efforts on target all game against the Brazilians and scored three goals one of the all time great World Cup performances.

Current Form

Since winning the 2006 World Cup Italy disappointed somewhat at both Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010. In South Africa they failed to qualify from a fairly easy group and even drew their opening game with the tournament underdogs New Zealand. However, they have have since bounced back by winning their Euro 2012 qualification group without losing a single match.

Italy have been draw in Euro Group B for the qualification for the 2014 World Cup. They may start the group as favourites but will have to battle past the likes of Denmark, Czech Republic and Bulgaria if they are to gain automatic qualification for the Finals. The Italians will be difficult to beat as always and will be one of the sides to watch in Brazil.
