Fifa World Cup Final 1982 - Italy v Germany

West Germany once again performed with distinction and reached the 1982 World Cup final but came up against an inspired Italian team who on the day came out on top. Antonio Cabrini achieved an unwanted distinction in the final, by becoming the first man ever to miss a penalty in a World Cup final. However this was only a small setback for the Italians as they took the lead in the 57th minute, where Rossi, the Italian master and their key player in the tournament putting them ahead. This was Rossi's 6th goal at Spain 1982 and this made him the leading scorer of the Spain 1982 World Cup.

Italy did not sit back on this lead and their dominance grew throughout the second half. Marco Tardelli scored their second goal midway through the half, and with ten minutes left Alessandro Altobelli made it 3-0. Two minutes later Paul Breitner scored for West Germany, but it was no more than a consolation goal. Italy won 3-1, and Italy's 40-year-old goalkeeper and Captain Dino Zoff led his team to pick up the cup.
