1954 Final

Fifa World Cup Final 1954 - Germany v Hungary

Hungary were the clear form team coming into the tournament with any number of top class players and this team were one of the most attacking ever seen at a World Cup scoring tons of goals in the qualifying games.

Hungary took on West Germany and were clear favourites to come out on top with the final in Berne and they took a two goal advantage after only eight minutes. But the Germans then staged one of the great World Cup comebacks, scoring twice in ten minutes to level the scores at 2-2 after only 18 minutes.

It was then a matter a who blinked first and the reliable West Germans were in their element and with six minutes from the end Helmut Rahn scored the winner for West Germany after Hungarian goalkeeper Gyula Grosics slipped on the wet grass as he was about to go for the ball.

This was one of the biggest turn ups ever in a World Cup final.
